Treatments

Replacement, repair, and knowing which one you need.

Most knee pain is not a surgical problem. Finding out which kind you have is the first job.

Knee replacement

A worn joint resurfaced, so you can walk without the pain that stopped you.

Arthroplasty

Hip replacement and AVN

For arthritis, and for avascular necrosis where the bone loses its blood supply.

Arthroplasty

ACL and PCL reconstruction

Keyhole surgery to rebuild a torn ligament and give the knee back its stability.

Arthroscopy

Sports injuries

Meniscus, cartilage and ligament damage, treated with a return to play in mind.

Arthroscopy

Knee arthritis

Managed before it turns surgical, for as long as that remains the right answer.

Clinic

Fractures and PRP

Fracture fixation and follow up, and PRP injections where they genuinely help.

Common questions

The questions patients ask first.

Answered plainly. If yours is not here, the clinic will answer it on the phone.

Do I need knee replacement surgery, or can it wait?

That depends on what the X-ray shows and, more importantly, on what the knee stops you doing. Pain at night, pain at rest, and difficulty walking short distances matter more than the grade on a scan. Many knees are managed for years without surgery. The purpose of the first consultation is to work out which kind you have.

What is the difference between arthroscopy and joint replacement?

Arthroscopy is keyhole surgery that repairs what is already there, such as a torn ligament or meniscus, through small incisions using a camera. Joint replacement resurfaces a worn joint with an implant. Dr Nekkanti holds a separate fellowship in each: arthroplasty in 2018 and arthroscopy in 2019, both at Continental Hospitals, Hyderabad.

Is hip avascular necrosis always treated with surgery?

No. Avascular necrosis is staged, and early stages are often managed without replacing the hip. Later stages, where the femoral head has collapsed, usually are. Which stage you are at is determined by imaging, and an MRI is often needed because an early AVN hip can look normal on an X-ray.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

Any previous X-rays, MRI or CT films, a list of the medicines you take, and any earlier operation notes for the same joint. Bringing old imaging often avoids repeating a scan.

What does a consultation cost, and where does Dr Nekkanti consult?

The consultation at Apollo Hospitals Financial District, Hyderabad is listed at Rs 1,000. He consults there Monday to Friday from 9am to 6pm, and at MN Precision Clinic in Ramanayyapeta, Kakinada on Saturdays from 10am to 4pm.

Which languages does Dr Nekkanti speak?

English, Hindi, Telugu and Kannada.
